Deer HuntingBear Creek Hunting Preserve, in cooperation with Alabama's Department of Conservation, employs the approved deer management program to maintain deer density, physical condition, improve antler development and allow the harvest of both sexes. Along with controlled hunting pressure, this allows the hunter a better chance for a trophy whitetail deer. Bear Creek Hunting Preserve offers white-tailed deer hunts during December and January. We only hunt these months to better offer our hunters an opportunity to harvest a mature buck by taking advantage of the rut. We manage our hunting areas in order to provide our customers with ample buck sightings and opportunity to harvest mature bucks with above average antler development. We are on a year round habitat management program in order to supply our deer herd with optimum nutrition 365 days of the year. Harvest of immature bucks is avoided, but there are plenty of opportunities to harvest mature bucks with good antler development as well as does to fill your freezer. Hunting is from shooting houses and ladder stands placed along well-used deer trails and supplemental food plots. These plots are very effective at attracting deer during this time of year since they offer the deer a lush green source of food. Food plots offer the opportunity to see more deer and we normally hunt these areas for the afternoon hunt and travel lanes to and from bedding areas in the mornings.
We harvest only mature bucks on Bear Creek to maximize growth and antler development in our herd. During the course of the season we harvest does in order to maintain the recommended buck-to-doe ratio. Some very good buck are seen each year, but not harvested. These bucks will be bigger and better next year. Taking this approach protects the bucks from intense hunting pressure, which increases deer sightings from year to year. Deer hunts include food, lodging and guides to assist in recovery and preparation of your kill.
